Evanston, New Trier investigate alleged racist and homophobic slurs at Ryan Field football game

Evanston Township High School and New Trier High School are investigating reports that racist and homophobic slurs were directed at students during a football game at the new Ryan Field.
The alleged incident occurred during a high school football game at the newly rebuilt Ryan Field in Evanston, according to school officials. The schools did not publicly identify the students involved or say exactly when during the game the language was used.
Evanston and New Trier officials said they are reviewing reports of racist and homophobic slurs aimed at students. Both districts said the alleged behavior does not reflect their values and that they are taking the reports seriously.
The investigation will determine who was involved, what was said and whether student conduct rules were violated. Officials have not said whether any students have been disciplined so far.
The incident involves two North Shore high schools and Ryan Field. The rebuilt home of Evanston football hosts school games and local events.
School leaders said they will continue to follow their standard student conduct and anti-discrimination policies while the investigation continues. The districts have not announced a timeline for a final decision.
