Three Found Dead Inside Buffalo Grove Home in What Police Call Possibly 'Coincidental' Deaths

Three people were found dead inside a suburban Chicago home Tuesday in a scene that investigators acknowledge looks striking but say is most likely the result of natural causes and substance abuse rather than any criminal act.

The deaths occurred at a residence in the 200 block of Timber Hill Road in Buffalo Grove. Authorities identified the three victims as an 81-year-old man, a 60-year-old man, and an 88-year-old woman. Exact circumstances surrounding each death had not been fully disclosed as of Wednesday afternoon, and a manner of death had not yet been officially released pending a final report from the medical examiner's office.

The Buffalo Grove Police Department issued a statement acknowledging the unusual nature of the situation while urging the public not to draw premature conclusions. "Currently there is no indication of foul play, and we are not investigating this as anything but deaths resulting from natural causes and/or substance abuse," the department said. "Two of the elderly patients had been in hospice care leading up to their untimely passings. We recognize how coincidental these unfortunate deaths appear, but there is nothing leading us to believe foul play was involved at this time."

The acknowledgment that two of the three individuals had been enrolled in hospice care suggests their deaths, at least, may have been anticipated. The death of the 60-year-old man has not been further explained publicly, and investigators indicated the overall inquiry remains open.

Authorities stressed that the investigation is still considered incomplete until the medical examiner delivers its final findings. Until then, police say they will continue to treat the case as a matter of natural deaths and possible substance abuse, with no criminal probe underway.

The case is expected to come into clearer focus once the medical examiner's report is finalized, which will likely determine whether the three deaths were entirely unrelated or connected in any way.
