Georgia Man Arrested After Driving to Lake County to Pursue 'Romantic Relationship' With Runaway Girl

A 24-year-old Georgia man was arrested in suburban Libertyville after allegedly driving hundreds of miles to pursue what authorities describe as a "romantic relationship" with a young Lake County girl who had run away from home in the middle of the night.

What Happened

Deputies were called to a home in unincorporated Gurnee early Saturday morning after the girl was reported missing. Though investigators were unable to obtain a signal from the girl's phone, they quickly uncovered that she had been in communication with the suspect, identified as Jordy Alexis Fuerte Perez of Georgia, and that he had made plans to drive to Illinois to pick her up.

Using information about the suspect's vehicle and public safety cameras, deputies tracked the car to a forest preserve parking lot in Libertyville, where they apprehended Fuerte Perez and took the girl into protective custody. Authorities do not believe the victim was physically harmed, though she was transported to the Lake County Children's Advocacy Center for evaluation and support.

Charges and Investigation

Fuerte Perez now faces two counts of solicitation of child pornography and one count of unlawful possession of cocaine. Authorities indicated that additional charges are likely as the investigation continues.

"This type of case is a parent's worst nightmare," Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg said in a statement. "Our Criminal Investigations Division took this case seriously and worked tirelessly from the moment the girl was reported missing until she was safely located. While there will undoubtedly be a long road to recovery and healing, I am grateful the victim was found safe and is physically okay."

Context and Outlook

The case underscores the dangers children can face through online communications with adults, particularly when those interactions go undetected until a child goes missing. With the investigation still active and additional charges expected, the full scope of the alleged conduct may not yet be known. The Lake County Children's Advocacy Center will continue to support the victim as she and her family navigate the aftermath of the incident.
