A 14-year-old boy full of life and loved by many is gone after being shot multiple times in Auburn Gresham late Thursday night, leaving his family, friends, and former football teammates to grieve an unimaginable loss.
Marcus Chatman Jr., of West Pullman, was shot around 11:30 p.m. Thursday in the 8000 block of South Carpenter Street. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead just after midnight Friday. He was 14 years old.
Chatman had been a player on the Midwest Hawks, a youth football team based in south suburban Country Club Hills and coached by his stepfather. In a statement posted to social media, the team expressed profound grief and called on the community to rally around the family.
